Tips for Small Business Tax Preparation

Happy New Year! I know, as a small business owner, it can be a challenge to carve out some relaxation time during all the hustle and bustle of the holidays. But, hopefully, you were able to enjoy your time with family and friends, and are ready for the new year.

So, as we enter a new year, on top of planning your direction for your business, it is, unfortunately, time to start thinking about tax preparation. If you followed some of my tips for organizing your records, this should be a pretty painless time for you.

If you have followed my posts, you know that I strongly recommend assistance provided by the Small Business Administration and SCORE. They simply have a plethora of beneficial resources for small business owners. I am pleased that SCORE continues to offer wonderful webinars to assist with a number of small business topics, including tax preparation.

With the revised tax laws that went into effect this past year, there may be new considerations in preparing your taxes. Most reputable tax preparers will be able to assist you in wading through these new laws, but it is always beneficial to have some understanding into how the laws may affect you and your business.

So, though it may seem you have a lot of time before April 15th, it behooves you to get a head-start on planning and organizing your taxes…that way you can focus on what you do best…your business.
